LUNG DIET: 

Object is to HEAT and make HEAVIER the digestive system 

FOODS TO REMEDY: SWEET, SOUR, SALTY    and HOT
Oily, nutritious food : 

All soups, lamb, chicken, fish, salty fish, anchovies 
Bananas, oranges, grapefruit, grapes, cherries, peaches, mangoes, kumquats and apples (Water and Earth = Heavy)
COOKED tomato, cooked nettles, coconut, carrot, lettuce, aubergine, green and red peppers, potatoes, cabbage, peas, mushrooms, potatoes, corn, onion and garlic, spring onions, leeks
Horseradish, basil, cloves, black pepper, salt, honey, soy sauce, tofu
Brown rice, wheat, barley, all nuts and seeds, sunflower seeds, peanut butter 
Eggs, and fats, butter, yoghurt 
Raw sugar, molasses, oils (esp. sesame and mustard)
Flour products, e.g. bread and cakes , raisins

INHERENT QUALITIES TO PACIFY LUNG:

Heat          - Yak, buffalo, pomegranate, foods grown in a hot, sunny environment 
Heaviness - corn, wheat 
Oiliness    - eggs, mango, banana, pomegranate, flesh of water-dwelling animals 
Softening  - spinach and other foods grown in an environment having a strong element of EARTH

Secondary Qualities for Lung:

Heaviness  - Bone marrow, potatoes, cabbage
Warmth     - hot chilli, pomegranate
Oiliness     - seseame oil and other grain oils
Pliability    - foods grown in water
 

Cooked nettles stimulate DIGESTIVE HEAT,  aggravate Badkhen and Tipa, but alleviate Lung.  Nettles are drying - so not good for Lung in quantity.
Coriander is a digestive - clears flatulence and bloating
Cardomom and cumin are also digestives, plus aniseed - Pernod and pastis.

BEVERAGES FOR LUNG: 
Warm milk,  Horlicks, Ovaltine etc before bed.  yakís milk is warm and rejuvenating.
Heating herbal teas with cinnamon, clove nutmeg, liquorice etc.
Warm boiled water with piece of ginger. 
Wine from ANGELICA SP. and POLYGONATUM CIRRIFOLIUM ROYLE.
Wine from molasses, from bones, aged liquor, e.g. whisky, brandy 

GIN is made from Juniper and Angelica.

FOODS TO AGGRAVATE LUNG:

BITTER, LIGHT, ROUGH 
Excess of tea and coffee, cold fruit juices
Potatoes, cabbage,  cucumber, celery, uncooked tomato, capsicum, peas, white rice, beef, pork, sugar, spinach, aubergine, peas, ,apples, melons, strawberries, lemon, dry fruits and green salad.  All unripe fruit and vegetables and excess of uncooked vegetables, e.g. salad.   Ice-cream and all frozen foods. (Lung is raised by extremes of cold and heat hence very hot foods such as chilli should be avoided. 
ALL REFRIGERATED FOOD AND DRINKS. 
All foods grown in a windy environment, foods grown in a cool, windy enviornment. 
Hot chilli
REMEMBER THAT MEAT IS ACID-FORMING, and will exacerbate Lung's proneness to acidity if taken in quantity.

Tibetan dietary advice considers the following food combinations unwholesome:
Fish and milk,  fish and eggs, meat and milk, yoghurt and beef, yoghourt and chicken, yoghurt and pea soup, sour fruits and milk,
Milk and animal (fish and/or meat) together in one meal cause digestive upsets ó different parts of the stomach must process the different substances which leading to indigestion and ëheartburní.

COOL AND LIGHT foods can be made HOT AND HEAVY  by frying.
Cooked nettles stimulate DIGESTIVE HEAT,  aggravate Badkhen and Tipa, but alleviate Lung. 
Cooked radish promotes the digestive heat, therefore bad for Tipa.

All heating spices: Nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, clove

VEG.OILS - Habitual use of vegetable oil - internal heat and digestion stimulated; tissues nourished, sense organs made stronger.

Plants             - Light, Water

The body is composed of the 5 elements - outside conditions should correspond  to level of moisture or dryness achieved within the system

GRAINS - rice, wheat, barley etc  - Sweet in taste and post-dig. taste, suppresses Lung and alleviates  Badkhen. 
LENTILS AND BEANS - Astringent and Sweet, cool and light and recommended for Badkhen, fever and diarrhea, blood and tipa disorders.  Paste for a fat person.  Chickpea is effective, red dhal increases all 3 humours. 
Tender radish is LIGHT AND HOT, stimulates digestion. Pork is cooling and light, cures ulcers and diseases associated with Badkhen 'smug-po'. 
Fish, warming,  alleviates stomach disorders and stimulates appetite. 
Eggs cleanses eyes, cures ulcers, abcesses and Badkhen diseases. 
CHEESE AND CREAM - are appetizers and cure dry stool  (moisturizing)  and Badkhen disease. 
OILS stimulat digestive heat, cleanse internally, fortify the B.C.ís and enhance strngth and complexion. 
Mutton, Yak meat,  Fish PROMOTES APPETITE, FOR TUMOURS, CANCER 
BUTTER is cooling and cures Lung Fever 
MEATS: Goat - heavy, cold - alleviates imbalance of all 3 humours.  Cures syphilis, smallpox and ulcers caused by burns. 
Beef- cooling and unctuous - cures fevers ass. with Lung. 
Pork - cooling and light. Cures ulcers and diseases associated with Badkhen 'smug-po'.
Yak meat is unctuous and hot - cures cold and aggravates blood and Tipa. 
Chicken  helps in production of semen and treats ulcers (chicken is LIGHT- but WARMER than other meats)) 
Fish alleviates stomach disorders and stimulates appetite. 
Fresh meat is cool
Preserved meat stimulates powers of digestion. 
Meat roasted over a fire is heavy and difficult to digest. 
Dried and cooked meat is light and easy to digest. 

FATS: All types of fat are SWEET - but OILY and HEAVY- not so good for TIPA 
Fresh butter - COOLING,  healthy complexion, strength and cures fever caused by TIPA.
