Diagnosis and treatment

Trauma is similar to LUNG symptoms.   In Tibet children sleep with parents until 4/5 years  old. If a baby is left to cry for too long, too much Lung arises.  Pregnant mother should not have too much Lung.            Relationships can traumatise.

Lack of involvement is worst problem for refugees in India.  Pressure of looking for work.
Isolation, insecurity, loss of identity.   1 or 2 come from a family, leaving mothers and fathers, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters.   Insecurity - in 1991 the Indians demonstrated against the Tibetans in Dharamsala.
Chang is very cheap in Tibet because the Chinese want to destroy the Tibetans.

PULSE DIAGNOSIS

Tongue:  Dry, red spots, pimples, rough, coarse
Urine:  Bubbles, stirred becoming bigger, too much nervousness inside and bubbles disappear quickly, inflammation.
Eyes:  Red, itchy, red veins, swelling, ëtired eyesí.
Appearance:  Pale skin, not talking - torture trauma
Pulse:  Weak, difficult to find, deep inside, irregular beats - disturbed Lung
Heartbeat:  Very fast if there are problems - shoulder blades, elbow point, crown of head(treatment)

INTERROGATION

Careful before questioning trauma patient.   Calm, positive, safe, respectful.
2 hrs. with therapist is too hard questioning - not Tibetan way.  Conversation, not Interrogation.

Symptoms:  Difficulty in sleeping, diff. in concentration. Weak memory, poor appetite, complains about treatment here, feeling very sad inside, frightening dreams.  Constipation, restlessness, tiredness, aggressiveness.   Disturbance of Body, Speech and Mind.
Reception Centre, nurses and health workers   Vitamins and Tibetan med.
Then out to Nepal, Delhi, South India, Dharamsala for settlement.

Numbers: around 3,000 per year.    New arrivals - 75% go straight to school or monasteries.
Those who go to TCV each Sept. are funded by Rs.15,000 donations.
Tibetans born in India do not get this.

There is a Torture and Trauma office where these are studied.  Tibetan Torture Survivors Programme with DANIDA.   Health Dept. - 1 programme: 2 doctors, 1 Allopathic doctor, 1 Spiritual Advisor, 35 patients, limit 50.   LOJONG training.  Rehab. most important. Training in: tailoring, driving, painting - vocational training. English study at the Library.

1 hr. sessions - 3 years in programme

AGAR 20 - dizziness
AGAR 35 - general Lung
AGAR 8 - Heart, irregular beat due to Lung
AGAR 15
SENDEY - mind and peace (Undying Eaglewood)
BIMAL 9 - crush, wrap in cloth, dip in warm oil, anoint to Lung pts. Head, shoulders, sternum, palms, soles.   When patient is too restless and  cannot calm down, this is helpful.
Golden Needle, Golden Hammer and LIGHT Moxa.      (Sternum and 6th and 7th pts.)

Roommates can be a problem., 2 or 3 in same room. e.g. Khampa, Amdos mixed. Different regions - discord.   `Nun teased because of her dialect.
Treated by Golden Needle and AGARís. DONG TSA - Agar 8 - good for  Heart Lung and Angina.

Lojong training is not popular amongst survivors, nor is the visiting doctor.  2 good  social workers - 
tell the survivors that groups therapy is good for staying calm.
